batteries

If you are like me, never like to prepare for thing like the hurricane. Just wait for a Hurricane/Tropical Storm Watch. Usually it means that you will still have 48 hours before a possible hurricane/tropical storm that will hit in your specified area. If it is not listed for your neighborhood, do nothing. Otherwise prepare a little before everyone else, so you are not part of the panic. You want to look cool and calm; don’t you? You can get all of these without even leaving the neighborhood. Well, almost, need to venture off up Waialae Ave for the hardware store. Here is a list of places to go – bank, gas station, pharmacy, grocery store, and home hardware store. See easy. Only 5 stops, 2 hours max. Now you can get back at the game.

• CASH at Territorial Saving, American Saving, Central Pacific, Bank of Hawaii, First Hawaiian Bank. Have extra supply of cash on hand.
• FUEL at Aloha, Shell, Tesoro, Cheveron gas stations
• MEDICINE at Safeway Pharmacy, Corner Pharmacy (218-7896) 3rd floor Kapahulu Medical Clinic Building 1029 Kapahulu Avenue, City Pharmacy (739-1188) 750 Palani Avenue. Check prescription medicines – obtain at least 10 days to 2 weeks supply. Check and replenish first-aid supplies.
• FOOD and WATER at Foodland, Safeway Kapahulu; Times, Longs Waialae Avenue. Check food and water supplies. Have clean, air-tight containers on hand to store at least two weeks of drinking water (14 gallons per person), and stock up on canned provisions. Keep a small cooler with frozen gel packs handy for packing refrigerated items.
• SUPPLIES at City Mill, Ace Hardware and Long’s at Waialae Avenue. If your windows and door openings do not have shutters, buy a few sheets of plywood for covering. . Buy a ball of rope for securing outdoor lawn furniture and other loose, lightweight objects, such as garbage cans and garden tools. Stock up on extra batteries for radios, flashlights, and lanterns. Don’t forget container for the water.

Market City shopping center marked its beginning in1946 with 3.5 acre at the busy interception of Kapiolani Boulevard, Harding Avenue, and Kaimuki Avenue. The original Koa patches are long gone but some of the original monkey pod trees are still see standing in the current parking lot. Market city is not just a shopping place but a gathering place for the neighborhood. It’s a place for grocery shopping; a place for a cup of coffee, cold drink or plate lunches. Keiki love the games at Fun Factory. Parents can get craft supply to start an art project with the them too. The new addition to the mall is Pet’s Discount store – another good reasons for a visit to Market City Shopping Center. Its Chinese New Year celebration and Halloween parade are events that the community looks forward to each year. See you at Market City.

Check out this old world business concept repackaged for the new world called Natural Capitalism. You too can run your business with this concept application. You can see fragments of the concept in our business world and it is a matter of time when it will be integrated common business practice.

Replicable, biological models with closed loops and zero waste, shifting from goods to service. These are the next steps in sustainable thinking and doing.
• Replicable – franchise like Starbucks, L&L Drive-Inn, Dave’s ice cream, Pizza Hut, Jack in the Box, Jumba Juice, where the business model can be repeated again and again.
• Biological Models with close loops and zero waste – Macadamia nut processing plant uses the shells to burn energy to run the light and machine. Starbucks use their coffee grind to generate energy to run the store. Highway that uses car vibration to power the street lamp. Cell phone that charges when you talk into it. (Hello, sound wave harvesting)
• Shifting from goods to service. Hawaii is famous for selling leisure service rather than goods. The goods are to support the service rather than the product itself. Sell floral service rather than flowers from Sweet Blossoms. Sell phone service plan rather than the phone from Mobi. Sell dining experience rather than a box lunch. Sell housing service package rather than simply the house. Sell a comprehensive transportation package (bus, taxi, carpool, rail) rather simply a car. Sell entertainment package rather than simply a TV.
