Stormy weather at the Ala Wai Golf Course

Stormy weather at the Ala Wai Golf Course Check this out.  Ala Wai Golf Course driving range after the storm.  Is that a duck swimming in the “pond”?

Accident on Campbell Avenue

Let’s hope the drunk driving accident on Tuesday morning was an isolated incident in the Kapahulu neighborhood. Campbell Avenue is very straight and wide. Traffic lights are located at each end of the avenue, on Monsarat and Kapahulu Ave. People sometimes end up driving a little too fast without knowing it. Believe it or not - the speed limit is only 25 mph on the Avenue. Parked car sometimes are too close to the intersection and crosswalks, preventing entering traffic to gain better views of oncoming traffic or oncoming traffic to have better views of pedestrian waiting to cross.  There are 8 crosswalks on the avenue. So, please kukua, slow down a bit and watch out for crosswalkers. Park a little away from intersections and crosswalks. Mahalo.

Christmas gift project from instructables.com

Just ventured off to instructables.com and posted my first do it yourself project.

My project - a grunge style ipod holder made from a leg of a pair of jeans. This would be a perfect gift for your have-it-all friend.

Among other things you can learn to made are rain water collector, solar oven, moss grafitti…

The sixth and twenty sixth miles of the Honolulu Marathon

The sixth and final miles of the Honolulu Marathon are located on the edge of Kapahulu. Residents loves to give the runners their cheers!

The sixth mile begins where Kalakaua Avenue fork left onto Monsarrat Avenue, along the back side of Honolulu Zoo, where art on the fence happens every Sunday. Look to the left, runners can have a glimpse of the finish line, which by the way is 20 miles away. After running pass the Waikiki Shell, and make a right, runners will run along Kapiolani Park on Paki Avenue with Diamond Head on the left. Runners will be tested for their first gentle uphill incline on Diamond Head Road, but also will be rewarded with an awesome view of Oahu’s coastline, with two lookouts ahead.

For the last mile of the course, it’s all down hill to the finish line. Runners will run once again under the chalky base of Diamond Head cliffs, pass the lighthouse, back onto Kalakaua Avenue, pass Sans Souci Beach, the Waikiki Aquarium and finally finish near the Kapiolani Park Bandstand. A job well done. Congratulation.

Rained out

Last week it rained so much on the island that we almost forgot what it was like to be sunny.   The marathon runners started with the rain but was greeted with some sun in between. Congratulations to you all.  It rained so hard on Saturday that we can’t see the top of Diamond Head.

Honolulu Board of Realtor on Kapahulu

Thanks to Mathew Ngo, RA, I landed on the Honolulu Board of Realtor  web site. I am very happy to see realtors don’t guard their information like they used to a decade ago. Now, they want you to look and when you see something you like, you call the agent listed.  Very simple. I search the Kapahulu neighborhood and got 29 listings of home and business opportunity on December 12, 2008. You can even find rentals on the site.  Very nice.

Sample listing
Single Family home with 2 bedroom 1 bath at 2838 Kaimuki Ave for $668,000. Across from crane park. Half a block from Kaimuki High and Market City Mall. A plus or minus depends on how you look at it.

Single Family home with 3 bedrooms, 2 1/2 bath at 3385 Campbell Ave for $758,000. Okay for home business.

Two Pho business for sale.  Why? Nobody like pho anymore?
