If you are like me, never like to prepare for thing like the hurricane. Just wait for a Hurricane/Tropical Storm Watch. Usually it means that you will still have 48 hours before a possible hurricane/tropical storm that will hit in your specified area. If it is not listed for your neighborhood, do nothing. Otherwise prepare a little before everyone else, so you are not part of the panic. You want to look cool and calm; don’t you? You can get all of these without even leaving the neighborhood. Well, almost, need to venture off up Waialae Ave for the hardware store. Here is a list of places to go – bank, gas station, pharmacy, grocery store, and home hardware store. See easy. Only 5 stops, 2 hours max. Now you can get back at the game.
• CASH at Territorial Saving, American Saving, Central Pacific, Bank of Hawaii, First Hawaiian Bank. Have extra supply of cash on hand.
• FUEL at Aloha, Shell, Tesoro, Cheveron gas stations
• MEDICINE at Safeway Pharmacy, Corner Pharmacy (218-7896) 3rd floor Kapahulu Medical Clinic Building 1029 Kapahulu Avenue, City Pharmacy (739-1188) 750 Palani Avenue. Check prescription medicines – obtain at least 10 days to 2 weeks supply. Check and replenish first-aid supplies.
• FOOD and WATER at Foodland, Safeway Kapahulu; Times, Longs Waialae Avenue. Check food and water supplies. Have clean, air-tight containers on hand to store at least two weeks of drinking water (14 gallons per person), and stock up on canned provisions. Keep a small cooler with frozen gel packs handy for packing refrigerated items.
• SUPPLIES at City Mill, Ace Hardware and Long’s at Waialae Avenue. If your windows and door openings do not have shutters, buy a few sheets of plywood for covering. . Buy a ball of rope for securing outdoor lawn furniture and other loose, lightweight objects, such as garbage cans and garden tools. Stock up on extra batteries for radios, flashlights, and lanterns. Don’t forget container for the water.
