Carports – always seems to be an after thought for older homes in the Kapahulu neighborhood. Well, they were. Most homes were built before the popularity of the automobile. They were built during the period of the street cars. Most homeowners added their carports out of necessity – to protect their new cars from the Hawaiian sun. The last thing on their minds would be how to build their new carports so they will complement their charming home. Most carports were either poorly located and or poorly constructed. When time to upgrade your carport, check out these slick looking Japan-made carports. They are all over Japan and only recently distributed by Skylights of Hawaii. I especially like the MaxPort Single (cantilever) and Y (butterfly) model. They are made out of aluminum and cover with either corrugated metal or polycarbonate panel roof. Owner Gene also mentioned that the Japanese engineers will be intergrading PV panel as roof material option. Wow. Solar power carport. How cool is that? Or should I say, how hot is that?
